Vauxhall changed the connectors under the seat for this reason. Sure there is a Technical service bulletin about it. Long time Vauxhall owner (well from 1986 anyway - lol). Currently driving an Astra-J 2.0 diesel auto. It should only prevent it working on the slowest speed. See the pic below. By the way, Vauxhalls generally use Brown cable as the earth/neutral and have been for at least since the Mk2 Astra. Black normally means something else.
